Concept of Treatment

GENERAL VIEW

Treatment of disease with medicine falls under the science of therapeutics. The science of therapeutics means treating a disease with medicines or other available methods.

Our body is either in a healthy or diseased state. In a disease state, one or more body processes are deviated or become uncontrolled, leading to an alteration in the chemical concentration and changes in the anatomy of the body which can or cannot be documented in the investigations. These changes give rise to certain signs and symptoms in the body and the person with these symptoms is unable to perform the basic or routine duties of life and he approaches the doctor for relief and cure.

Remember getting investigated is not the treatment but it is part of the treatment. The mode of treatment can be Homoeopathic, Allopathic, Ayurvedic, or Unaani, etc. and they differ from each other in many things, but the major differences are
- Philosophy and definition of health, disease, and medicine.
- Principle of preparation of medicine
- Principle of application of medicine to the disease condition.
- Laws governing the treatment etc.

Treatment for the disease can be Curative, Control, Suppressive, or Palliative. The differences in such types are:

a) Curative: During the treatment, the disease gets completely cured (no signs and symptoms remain) with no generation of new symptoms or any sequel during or after the treatment. The medicine is stopped after a few days in an acute disease and after a few months or years in a chronic disease. It is a sign that the type of treatment and medicine used were correct and it has
. Helped the Body force to regain the control on the body processes.
. Rectified all the altered or deviated body processes.
. Rectified all the altered chemical substances and anatomy (cell, tissue, etc.) of the body.

b) Control of the disease: Most of the treatment taken for chronic disease falls into this category. In this type of treatment, the disease is kept under control for some time and the symptoms intensity and frequency get minimized (but not completely gone) for a short period of time, but later old symptoms return with greater severity along with new symptoms (sign of new deviated process either by medicine or by old disease). This happens because the treatment is directed only to rectify the altered chemical concentration or anatomy of the body which had produced the symptoms, while the deviated body process is still unchecked and uncured. In this type, patients take medicine everyday with increasing doses month after month, till many normal bodily functions get severely deviated with addition of new symptoms to the old symptoms during treatment. As the treatment progresses, there may be sudden death of the patient during the course of the treatment or in the future only palliative mode of treatment is applicable due to multi organ failure till death, under the name of some complications of the primary disease. There are many examples of such treatment, especially in chronic diseases and a few are mentioned below

Diabetes: During the treatment the intensity of symptoms caused from increased blood glucose level is kept under control by reducing the blood glucose level for a short time by medicine. But symptoms keep rebounding again and again along with the addition of new symptoms which are caused by deviation of other normal processes (of kidney, heart, brain, blood vessels, etc.) either by medicine used or by primary deviated process or altered chemical concentration. This change continues internally at a slower pace and cannot be documented in any investigations till complete organ failure occur and now only palliative mode of treatment is applicable followed by death of the patient from diabetic complications like kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, etc. This is because the medicine was directed only towards the altered chemical concentration while the deviated process was left unchecked and uncured

Hypothyroid: During treatment, many times the T3 T4 TSH levels are kept under control (as seen in investigations) but still the patient suffers from complications of hypothyroidism like anxiety, fibroids in mammary gland (breast) or uterus, atherosclerosis, constipation, obesity, etc. and patients die from complications of the above-mentioned diseases. This is again because only the end altered chemical substances were managed (T3 or T4) while the deviated process was left uncured.

c) Suppressive Type: In this type of treatment, the disease symptoms are forcefully annihilated by aggressive and or by large physiological doses of medicine and /or by surgical or other methods of treatment. After treatment or during treatment:
. Few new symptoms arise (because another deviation of normal body process has occurred) or
. The same annihilated symptoms and disease reappear with aggressive symptoms after a few days, months, or years.

In both the above conditions, the old disease was not cured but was forcefully suppressed and only its symptoms were annihilated (deviated body process left untreated) temporarily by the treatment given at that time which also resulted in bad effects of treatment which had led deviation of other normal body processes. Thus, new diseases appear and many times in the due course of time, the older disease rebounds back with more severity. In such cases usually only palliative mode of treatment is applicable if damage in the body is excessive. We can find many diseases in which such a type of treatment is given at the very origin of the disease and the most common one is cancer.

In cancer, surgical treatment. radiation therapy, or chemotherapy is used to cure the disease but many times it just suppresses the original disease. In many cases, within a few years, the disease rebounds back with greater severity and becomes fatal.
. Sore throat if not treated properly and suppressed, then nephrotic syndrome (kidney disease) or rheumatic valvular disease (heart valve disease), etc. may occur.
. Allergic conditions like urticaria, rhinitis, etc. when suppressed may lead to allergic asthma

In this type of treatment, again the treatment is directed only towards:
. The altered chemical substances and anatomy (cell and tissue) of the body.
. The deviated process is not rectified and is untouched, so not cured.
d) Palliative type of treatment: The patient may enter in this state of disease during treatment of any disease or sometimes without any treatment and knowledge of the patient, certain disease spring up suddenly in an incurable state, like advanced stage of cancer. Sometimes in certain diseased states, the chemical concentration and structure of the cell, tissue, and organ is altered or distorted to such an extent that reversal of structure (anatomy) and function of the organ cannot be achieved by any method or mode of treatment, leading to severe painful and other unbearable symptoms. Temporary relief of symptoms for a few hours can be given to the patient with large physiological doses of medicine which may itself harm the patient. It is usually seen in many chronic diseases which are kept under control by improper treatment for years but later multiorgan failure occurs with death of the patient

E.g., In diabetes mellitus, blood glucose level is kept in the normal range by medicines for years but still the patient reaches a stage where the kidneys, heart, blood vessels, brain, eyes, etc. do get damaged with complete failure of their function. In such states only palliative mode of treatment is applicable, ending with one or more complications like heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, etc. followed by multiorgan failure and finally death of the patient.

So, during treatment, especially in chronic diseases, check with your doctor what type of treatment is being given for your disease i.e., Curative, Control of disease, Suppressive, or Palliative. Treatment of the disease should be correct, complete, and in proper manner. The rectification of deviations in the disease should be carried out in following hierarchy

- Altered Body process: Rectification of the deviated body process (body force regain its control on body force)
- Altered Physiology: Rectification of the altered chemical concentration in the body by bringing it back to normal levels.
- Altered Anatomy: Rectification of changes that have occurred in the anatomy of body at cellular or tissue level back to the normal structure without or with minimum structural or functional loss.

If all the above is managed properly, only then it is considered that the treatment administered was complete, proper, and rational. The cure will take place with disappearance of general symptoms as well as of particular or local symptoms with no new symptoms or sequalae from the old disease

Understanding the facts of Treatment
a) Too many modes of treatment are available, and it is all about the correct application of medicine to the disease using correct natural healing laws by understanding the body in the diseased and healthy states.
b) Treatment should be carried out to
. Rectify the deviated body process
. Management and rectification of the altered chemical concentration (resulted from deviated body process) back to normal range
. Rectification of the altered structure of the cell and tissue in terms of consistency, shape, size, number of cells or tissue (resulted from altered chemical concentration and or deviated body process) without any or minimum structural or functional loss
c) Too aggressive acute diseases or acute on chronic disease with excessive alteration in the chemical substance in a very short period of time, with severe symptoms which can become fatal should be managed by any mode of treatment available in the vicinity. Once it is tackled and if there is no danger to the life of the patient then the patient should opt for such mode of treatment (e.g., homoeopathy) that can rectify the deviated body process, especially, in chronic disease so that another exacerbation of acute attacks can be avoided along with the cure of chronic disease
d) After completing the course of the treatment or during treatment, disappeared symptoms of disease treated or being treated should not reoccur. If it recurs, it means treatment given or ongoing is not correct and is incomplete or suppressive. The treatment had not rectified the deviated body process, but only altered chemical concentrations were managed, due to which the symptoms were suspended or minimized in intensity for a few hours or days, and it rebounded because the body process is still deviated. It is a sign of improper, incomplete, and suppressive treatment.
e) During treatment, if new symptoms arise it means that along with the previous deviated body process, few other normal body processes had also deviated, altering another set of chemical concentrations in the body and it is because
. The medicine is unable to rectify already deviated process but just trying to manage the altered chemical concentration for a short period and this altered chemical concentration in the due course of time deviates another normal body process along with alteration of another set of normal chemical substances with generation of new symptoms. or
. The medicine used for treating disease harms the patient and medicine itself has deviated another set of body process resulting in another altered set of chemical concentrations leading to new symptoms (side effect of medicines). Thus, the patient is now under the influence of the natural disease and the medicinal disease. Treatment has harmed the patient instead of benefiting him.
f) Treatment should be in such a way that it should reduce and /or cure the disease or suffering of the patient and not add on to diseases and suffering of the patient. Adhering to a particular treatment for longer duration which is not beneficial is not good. If the treatment or mode of treatment is not changed, it will make the disease incurable in the due course and then only palliative mode of treatment will be applicable in the near future with much suffering of the patient till death.

Thus, to summarize, a few signs of correct and appropriate treatment among others are:
a) No new symptoms should arise during the course of treatment but decrease in number and intensity of existing symptoms should occur and later with complete disappearance of symptoms along with decrease in the doses of medicine, is a good sign
b) The already present symptoms should not increase in frequency or intensity while treatment.
c) The treated symptoms should not return unless the patient is again exposed to a known causative factor after the completion of treatment and medicine stopped.
d) During treatment supplements like appetizers, multivitamins, strength gaining supplements, sleeping pills etc. are not needed. The functions like appetite, strength, stamina, sleep, desire to work etc. should improve and come automatically during treatment, which is the sign of rectification of the body process and chemical concentration.
e) Weight and stamina relationship
. Reduction in weight (if overweight) with maintained or increased stamina is a good sign.
. Reduction in weight with decreasing stamina is a bad sign

f) Decrease in medicine dose, number, and frequency.
. Increase in medicine dose, number, and frequency during treatment is a bad sign while decrease is good sign.

HOMOEOPATHIC VIEW
In the Homoeopathic mode of treatment, care is taken to direct the treatment towards rectification of:
a) Body process (it is brought back under the control of the body force)
b)Altered chemical concentration from abnormal to normal level (seen by disappearance of symptoms and can also be documented in investigations)
c) Altered structure of cell or tissue in every aspect (seen by disappearance of signs and symptoms and can be documented in investigations)

Usefulness and benefit of choosing homoeopathic mode of treatment
a)Treatment can be started with trivial symptoms presented, even if investigations are normal or disease is yet to be documented in investigations. This will help to avoid getting chronic disease in the future
b) No new symptoms develop during treatment. Thus, indirect evidence that no new deviation of body process has occurred, hence no new alteration in the chemical substance or structure of the body.
c) General feeling of wellbeing starts at once in terms of feeling energetic, good sleep, good appetite, and digestion, increase of strength, desire to work, etc. followed by disappearance of other particular or local symptoms.
d) During the course of homoeopathic treatment (except in nutritional deficiency), there is no need of supplements like multivitamins, protein powders, calcium, iron, sleeping pills, etc
e) Homoeopathic mode of treatment puts the patient in the curative mode rather than in the control or suppressive mode provided the patient is not in palliative mode when he opts for homoeopathic treatment. For this to occur, one should opt for homoeopathic mode of treatment as early as possible, especially in chronic diseases before it reaches an incurable state, else even homoeopathy will not be able to provide complete cure.
f) Though Homoeopathy is kept under alternative medicine, but I will not put it has an alternative medicine because it had all potentials to give perfect cure at all stages of diseases, and if timely opted it may help to prevent major diseases like cancer, diabetes, many auto -immune diseases, etc.
g) Homoeopathic mode of system, unlike others, utilizes and revives the body power and functions to combat and cure the disease. That is the reason why it carries great potential to cure any infection and disease of any name which is still unknown to medical fraternity.

So, choose timely correct and proper treatment to get completely cured without any medicinal side effect.
