Fasting
We all work daily for days together, and we feel that it is our right to have holiday once in a week to rejuvenate mentally and physically. Similarly, every organ of the body, which is continuously working day and night needs rest once in a while but they cannot demand from you directly but they do let us know by either decreasing or increasing certain rate of body process (function) which results in some trivial symptoms generally
or locally like fatigue, loss of sleep or excessive sleep, weakness, loss of appetite, indigestion, cramps, head pain, etc. This does not require medicine for relief but requires rest or change in the present lifestyle to make you feel better.
.
Our body organs need some rest at regular intervals so that they can repair themselves, recheck their own function or processes and rectify their faulty process timely. If not, over a period their function may get deviated permanently and we may lose the organ slowly and steadily under the name of chronic diseases.
Fasting is one of the ways by which we can give rest to our body organs and so it is introduced in TEEN AAHAAR MANTRA but in a different way
Many people fast to become thin or lose weight or control diabetes and force
themselves into rigorous fasting methods which create lot of stress in the body and mind. This is not good because if we force ourselves to do anything, it will feel like torture or punishment to the body stimulating punishment area in the hypothalamus with adverse effect and release of cortisol and other hormones in higher concentration
causing harm. If we have to force ourselves to do anything, like rigorous fasting or exercise, then, we will not do it for a longer period of time, but the lifestyle advice in Teen Aahaar Mantra is so simple and easy that we can follow it for lifetime without torturing ourselves including fasting.
So, fasting is must to give rest to our body organs and in Teen Aahaar Mantra fasting is
not limited only to food but it includes the following types
a) Liquid diet: Once a week, on the same day. In a day 2 times liquid diet and regular meals at night. When we are on a liquid diet, we are giving rest to the whole GI tract by providing less work on digestion. Also, we are introducing more solvents and less solutes in contrast to the other days where it is vice versa. This helps our body
get rid of excess solutes and gives rest to the kidney’s filtration and absorption unit (especially medullary nephrons).
b) Rest to the tongue: Once in fortnight we should speak less the whole day so that our vocal cords and speech area in the brain get less activated and have rest.
c) Rest to the eyes: Once a fortnight, we should minimize the use of mobiles, avoid exposure to any type of screens (television, laptop, computer, mobile, etc.) and be in a least populated area, so that our eyes get rest. Catecholamines secretions increase due to prolonged exposure to high intensity light rays which may increase blood pressure.
d) Rest to the ears: Once a week we should talk less on the phone, not listening to music to give rest to our ears and respective areas in the brain. Catecholamines secretions increase due to prolonged high intensity noise which may increase blood pressure
Fasting is very important in our life with the following benefits
a) Builds control over the mind and help to develop patience
b) Staying away from screens and gadgets like mobile, laptop, etc., intermittently for a short duration, makes us believe that we can survive easily and comfortably without them
c) Builds patience by controlling our special senses like taste, vision, and hearing.
d) Help us avoid getting habituated to mobiles, excessive eating habits, screen,
etc.
e) It resets our level of sensation from the higher to the lower level, especially of the taste buds.
f) Always staying in a crowded and noisy area, working on laptop / computers for hours together, watching movies on mobile, etc. may stimulate in excess neuro-endocrine system which raises your blood pressure by 10% or more. So, relaxing your special senses may help you bring it down to normal and may prevent you from having high blood pressure.
