How to Relax
Our brain is always fed by lots of information every second from internal parts of the body and external surroundings by sensory cells, nerves, and organs. Important sensory cells and organs are eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin, spindle fibers in muscles, aortic bodies, etc
We all become tired and exhausted mentally as well as physically. Person halts or minimizes its physical activity to give rest to physical body but how to give rest to our brain is not known to many of us. That is the reason why whenever they get a break in between their work or at night or after job while travelling where physical activity is least people get engaged in listening music, watching movies or song or start reading books or some love to spend on screen scrolling social media small reels and videos, thinking that they are relaxing and giving rest to their brain which is not true. Though you are giving rest to your physical body but again you are feeding your brain with another set of information and brain had to continue working but now in some other department. So, now you are not relaxing mentally though physically you are and soon after few hours you will be mentally more fatigue
We are working whole day and our body becomes stressful due to accumulation of
excess metabolites and waste products leading to oxidative stress and unwanted inflammatory process which harms the body a lot and atherosclerosis in the heart blood vessels leading blockages is the major one. Majority of us work indoors and even our breathing is very shallow most of the time when we are working. The body needs energy every second but due to less oxygen because of a sedentary indoor lifestyle and work, many times body derives energy from anerobic mode instead of aerobic mode which also increases stress in the body.
To lessen the stress on the body and its harmful effects on the organs, we need
relaxation sessions in between during work and at the end of work. To achieve this, a
few suggestions are provided below along with some tips how to relax mentally also
- During sedentary work, do 5 to 6 times deep inhalation and exhalation sessions or
pranaayam like kumbhaka or anulom vilom at an interval of one hour. This will help you wash out excess carbon dioxide from the body, decreases acidic nature of blood, remove ROS, reduces oxidative stress, etc.
- For people with a sitting job, stand on your toes and then on heels alternately 5 to 7 times, to lessen the pooling of blood in the lower limbs. This will avoid getting varicose veins, may help decrease blood pressure, lessen inflammation in the lower limb joints and thus avoid chances of getting arthritis, etc.
- Relax Eyes: close your eyes for 2 minutes every hour if you are looking at the screen and do eye exercise after work is finished
- Relax your Eyes and Ears: Never listen music or watch a movie while travelling to office or back home after work or in between during break; just relax, sit quietly, and close your eyes so that your brain is not bombarded again with lots of information at a time when you can really relax. This is the reason people do not feel relaxed even when they are sitting and travelling because they are listening to music, watching a movie, watching so many people in the crowd, etc. which continuously send information to brain making it more fatigue and no relaxation occurs. This is the
reason when we reach home after travelling, we are very tired and exhausted though we were sitting doing nothing physically but were mentally. So, while travelling, just sit and either meditate or close your eyes and sit do not listen to any music, so that your brain relaxes.
- Stretch your neck or back in the opposite direction to the position you keep in most of the time. In our body most of the muscles are generally present in pairs (gonistic and antagonistic) to balance each other’s action and stabilize the bone and joint. Thus, stabilization of the pair of muscles is must during work or else diseases like cervical spondylosis or lumbar spondylosis may occur in future
- At night before dinner, wash out session is recommended in Teen Aahaar Mantra which includes 3 minutes shavasana, 3 minutes pranayama, and 2 minutes meditation. It will help wash away CO2 from the body thus adjusting the acid-base
balance and relax the sympathetic tone in the muscles of the body.
