Water how to drink

Water is a major solvent in our body having zero calories, but it forms the most important part of our body. On an average water makes about 60% of body weight in males while 55% in females. So, if your weight is 70 kg, then, approximately water by weight is 42 kg in male while 39 kg in female.

Few important uses and function of water in the body are as follows:
a) Great solvent in the body to keep many things in the dissolved state like bile salts (less water may cause gall stone), solutes of urine (less water may cause renal stone), dilutes the pH of stomach acids, etc.
b) Cools the body.
c) Source of H+ ion.
d) Act as transport medium mainly for gases.

Water quantity in our body should neither be less nor more. Normally when there is excess water in our body, it is excreted out of the body in urine, sweat, stool, and during respiration (water vapour) and thus water concentration is balanced. If water is less in body, then body generates symptoms like dryness of mouth, boils and pimples on skin, dryness of skin, intolerant of heat, etc., and compels the person to drink sufficient amount of water so as to fulfil the need

On an average a person should drink 2 to 3 litres of water every day. But the amount of water needed by the body differs greatly in each individual and even in each individual in particular weather. Followings are some of the factors which decides how much water should be consumed by a person every day
1) Age
2) Gender
3) Any prevalent disease condition
4) Weather
5) Type of work
6) Physical activity.
7) How much time spend in A.C. environment.

Drinking too much water is harmful and so drinking less also. Even drinking large amount of water at one go also harms our body.

So, first let see how to drink water at one go and same procedure a person should follow every time while drinking water.
a) Take mouth full (approximately 70 to 80 ml) of water
b) Do not gargle the water in the mouth, just keep it for 5 to 7 seconds and then gulp it down.
c) Water in mouth absorbs heat from the blood vessels present in the mouth and this makes water little warm which has a soothing effect to the internal parts while going in to the stomach.

Which water to drink and how to store water.
d) Never drink chilled or cold water as it constricts the blood vessels in the stomach which hinders the blood circulation in the stomach for very short time. Water should be of room temperature or little warmer.
e) Always drink water which is stored for minimum half hour and at room temperature in the vessel whose base is wider and upper part is of same size or little narrower as compare to base.

Now next we will see how much we should consume water so that it is not in excess nor less. To understand and follow the instruction properly we had divided our whole day into 4 sessions. In each session we had recommended how much and when to drink water along with amount of solute and solvent concentration in each session.

1) Session 1… 700 ml of water
* As soon as we wake up, sit for 2 to 3 minutes in bed, take a mouth full (70 to 80 ml) of water keep it for 5 seconds and then gulp it down slowly.
* After passing urine drink 1time (70 ml) again.)
* Brush your teeth, then after passing stool drink 1more time (70 ml).
* Before starting your exercise drink 2 times (140 ml) and eat 2 dates / Olive and go for exercise.
* Avoid drinking water during exercise unless it is necessary or recommended by your doctor. Let your body use stored fats to generate water during exercise.
* After exercise do not drink water immediately, relax and lie down in airy room without fan. Sweating will occur and after 15 minutes once body cools down on its own using internal water (prepared from stored fat), drink 2 times water (140 ml)
* Before bath 1 time (70 ml)
* After bath 2 times (70 ml)

Till now , in session 1we drank approximately 10 times which is equal to 10 x 70 ml = 700 ml water

In this session we had given more of solvent (liquid) compared to solute. So, the good part of this session is that excess of solutes in the body (accumulated in previous day) is mostly removed more from sweat and kidneys are given rest

2) Session 2… 350 ml water
* Before breakfast 1 time (70 ml)
* During breakfast 1 time (70 ml)
* After breakfast 2 times (140 ml)
* while moving out for work 1 time (70 ml)

So, now in session 2 we drank 5 times which is approximately 5 x 70 = 350 ml. This time both solute and solvents entered the body.

3) Session 3… 900 ml water
* 2 hours after breakfast drink 2 times (140 ml)
* Before lunch 1 time (70 ml)
* During lunch 2 times (140 ml)
* After lunch 1time (70 ml)
* 1 hour after lunch 2 times (140 ml)
* At 5 pm 2 times (140 ml)
* At 7 pm 2 times (140 ml)

So, till now in session 3, we drank 12 times which is approximately 12 x 70 = 800 to 900 ml. This time again solute and solvents entered the body, may be more of solute than solvents.

4) Session 4… 400 ml water
* Before dinner 1 time (70 ml)
* During dinner 2 times (140 ml)
* After dinner 1 time (70 ml)
* 30 minutes before sleeping 2 times (140 ml)

So, now session 4 we drank 6 times which is approximately 6 x 70 = 420 ml. In this session both solute and solvents entered the body, may be more of solute than solvents

So, total amount of water consumed in the day session wise is
* Session 1…… 700 ml
* Session 2 …… 400 ml
* Session 3 …… 900 ml
* Session 4 …… 400 ml

Total comes to about 2400 ml water per day.

On an average this much amount of water is enough for a person, unless any health care professional has recommended less or more. If water is consumed in excess or less amounts, it may have bad impact on the body, and a few are mentioned below.

1) Drinking water in excess may have negative impact on the body.
a) Too much water will cause polyuria (excess urine production), excreting your body solutes (minerals) along with water in the form of urine which will affect your overall health.
b) It will also put extra and unnecessary burden on the kidneys.
c) It may increase your fluid volume in the body along with the retention of salt which may have a negative impact on your body
d) You may have to go and pass urine repeatedly during your working hours which will affect your concentration and working ability.
e) Children and adolescent may suffer from bed wetting.

2) Drinking less amount of water may have these negative impacts on the body
a) The ratio of solute (minerals / solid) and solvent (water) gets hampered leading to kidney stones and other complications.
b) Urine may have a strong smell
c) Skin may get wrinkled at an early age making one look prematurely old
d) Suffer from hypotension (low blood pressure) or illness like vomiting, diarrhea, fever, in warm room or summer season, etc
e) Unable to tolerate heat.
f) Repeated boils, pimples, etc

So, drinking water should not be less or excessive. Consult your homoeopathic doctor to get proper advice on how much water to consume in a day.
